Six SOC 2 software myths, checked against vendor pages
Short answer
Some common assumptions about SOC 2 software do not survive a read of the vendors' own pages. Prices are mostly not published, integration counts are not comparable, the software does not issue the report, and the service model varies more than the feature lists do.

Myth 1: 'SOC 2 software prices are on the website'
Fact: one of six vendors publishes a figure. Secureframe's Fundamentals plan starts at $7,500/year. Scytale, Vanta, Drata and Sprinto publish plan names and contents without prices, and Thoropass's pricing URL shows no prices at all.
Myth 2: 'The platform gives you the SOC 2 report'
Fact: a licensed CPA firm issues the report. Platforms prepare you and give the auditor access. Some vendors connect you to auditors, and Thoropass performs audits itself, but the report is always the CPA firm's opinion.
Myth 3: 'More integrations always means less work'
Fact: counts are defined differently. Vanta publishes 400+, Secureframe and Sprinto 300+, Scytale 100+ on its integrations page, and Drata and Thoropass publish no count. What saves work is coverage of your own tools. See counting integrations.
Myth 4: 'Every platform includes an expert'
Fact: the models differ. Scytale describes a dedicated compliance expert with weekly meetings. Vanta and Drata describe partner networks. Sprinto's Foundation plan lists 24x5 email and in-app support. Thoropass offers in-house auditor support. See service models.
Myth 5: 'The entry plan covers everything you saw in the demo'
Fact: entry plans carry limits. Drata's Foundation covers up to 50 FTEs and one pre-mapped framework. Vanta's Essentials includes one framework, and questionnaire automation starts on Plus. Secureframe's Fundamentals includes one framework, with questionnaire automation on Complete. Scytale's Build Starter includes one framework. Ask which demo features are on your plan.
Myth 6: 'AI features are all live'
Fact: vendors mark some features as coming. Scytale lists its AI Policy Generator as coming soon. Performance figures quoted for AI features, such as Scytale's 'up to 90%' reduction in manual effort or Vanta's '95% acceptance rate', are vendor claims we have not verified.
What is the pattern?
Most of the difference between vendors is in the service model, the audit path and the plan limits, not in the feature list. Our rankings weight those accordingly.
What should you ask instead?
Turn each myth into a question for the demo: What will we pay for our headcount and frameworks? Which CPA firm will issue our report, and is it enrolled in peer review? Which of our tools are covered natively? Who is our named contact after signing, and how often do we meet? Which features in this demo are on the plan you are quoting? Which AI features are live today, and who reviews their output?
How did we check these?
Every fact above comes from the vendors' own pages read on 2026-09-29, the same pages that feed the ledger. Where a vendor may offer more than its pages say, we report what the page says. When a vendor updates a page, the fact here and the score it feeds are updated together.
