Five SOC 2 buyer profiles, run through our calculator
Short answer
We ran five buyer profiles through the calculator with the same criterion scores and different weights. The vendor at the top changes with the profile, and in one profile two vendors tie. The tables below are computed from the ledger.

Each profile uses weights from 0 to 10 in the order frameworks, integrations, experts, audit, pricing, AI, trust center. The criterion scores never change; only the weights do. Where the text below names a leader, it is the first row of the table computed from those weights.
Profile 1: a first SOC 2 with no security hire
A team of engineers and a founder, a customer asking for a report, and nobody whose job is compliance. The expert model and the audit path carry the most weight. Scytale comes out on top at 7.76. The expert criterion does most of the work here: scores on it range from 4 to 10.
Profile 2: an engineering-led team with many tools
A team with a platform engineer who wants evidence pulled from every tool and does not need hand-holding. Integrations carry the most weight and the expert model almost none. Vanta leads at 7.67. Scytale ranks fourth in this profile, because its published integration count is lower than several rivals.
Profile 3: budget first
A buyer who needs a number before a meeting with finance. Pricing transparency carries the most weight. Even so, Vanta leads at 7.23, because a published price is only one criterion and Secureframe, the one vendor with a published starting price, trails on others. The calculator's value column shows Secureframe's score per $1,000 of its published $7,500/year starting price; no other vendor publishes a figure to compare.
Profile 4: a multi-framework roadmap
A company that expects ISO 27001 and one or two privacy frameworks within a year. Framework coverage carries the most weight. Scytale and Vanta tie at 7.51. Sprinto, with the highest stated framework count, ranks third, because it trails on the expert model and trust center.
Profile 5: sales-heavy, many questionnaires
A company whose sales team sends a security questionnaire every week. Trust center and AI assistance carry the most weight. Vanta leads at 7.74. Vanta publishes the largest questionnaire allowance we found, 144 a year on Professional.
What do the five profiles show?
Across the five profiles, two different vendors reach first place, and Thoropass stays last in every one. The takeaway is to set your own weights before you book demos. The calculator starts at our default weights; change them to match your team.
How were the profiles chosen?
The profiles reflect the kinds of teams that buy SOC 2 software for the first time or switch vendors: a founder-led team, an engineering-led team, a budget-constrained buyer, a company with a multi-framework plan, and a company with heavy security review volume. They are illustrations, not segments we measured. Your own weights will differ, and the calculator is there so you can set them.
What does a tie mean?
When two vendors reach the same re-weighted score, we show them on the same rank. A tie means the weights you chose do not separate them. The next step is to open the head-to-head page for the pair, look at the criteria where they differ, and decide which differences matter to you.
